Being open and honest about sex can be difficult, especially if you were raised in a culture or religion that believed sex is "dirty" or something to be shameful of.
But, says Dr. Judith Orloff, author of The Ecstasy of Surrender: 12 Surprising Ways Letting Go Can Empower Your Life, being able to surrender to your own sensuality ad convey that to your partner is the key to a long-lasting, fulfilling relationship.
Dr. Orloff joins Naturally Savvy host, Lisa Davis, to share some of the concepts contained in her book.
Conscious Sexuality
Basically, this means being aware of how you are as a sexual being... being conscious of your body and surrendering to your body, and not being constantly in your head, rushing around, trying to "get things done."
Erotic Power of Common Values
It's really a turn-on when you can have common values with your partner. For instance, if you both believe that sexuality is more than just a mechanical release; that it's a way to connect with your body and with spirit, and to come together with the heart, it becomes a much more intimate thing. Common values increase your pleasure and enhance your awareness.
Passionate Communication
When you don't communicate in general, much less about your sex life, passion is quick to die. Your sex life can become habitual in a negative, "routine" way. Communicate your needs... and don't be afraid that doing so will disappoint your partner or insult your partner. Just be honest. Phrase it in the positive ("I really love to be touched in this way"), instead of the negative ("For 20 years you've never touched me the right way"). And, give your partner a lot of positive feedback.
Remember, says Dr. Orloff, "Sexuality keeps you young and vibrant. Even if you have no sex life right now, you can still reawaken it."
Listen in as Dr. Orloff shares more advice on opening up to your sexuality and how this could make a huge difference in not only your sex life, but your overall life as well.
