Alcoholism is a chronic and often progressive disease, in which you drink too much alcohol and your ability to live a normal and healthy life is severely impacted.
Excessive alcohol use can cause immediate and long-term health-related risks, including car accidents, alcohol poisoning, neurological problems, cancer, liver disease, and in some cases, death.
A recent study published in JAMA Psychology reveals that 1/3 of adults in the U.S. have an alcohol disorder at some point in their lives, and only 20 percent will actually seek treatment for it.
Why is that?
William D. Stanley, MD, shares the recent study on the drastic increase of alcohol disorder and how you can properly seek help.
