Erdafitinib (balversa), an oral pan-fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR) 1-4 inhibitor, is being used in one of the first biomarker-directed trials of high-risk non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). The Thor-2 trial (NCT04172675) targets tumors with driver mutations in the FGFR3 gene. This gene is altered in 40% to 70% of early-stage bladder cancers and may be a rare driver mutation in bladder cancer.
