Sex And The Seventies

People often are surprised (or even shocked) when someone in his late 70s becomes a dad (Tony Randall) or someone with a TV image as sweet as "The Partridge Family" mom Shirley Jones, now 79, insists that "old age and sexuality are not incompatible." But life and medical research clearly demonstrate that you're never too old to enjoy sexual intimacy in one form or another.

Now a new survey from Germany reveals that ever-more good-old-times are going on. Sexual activity among 70-year-olds has increased from 12 percent to 34 percent for women and from 47 percent to 66 percent for men since the 1970s. A U.S. survey has similar findings. For men and women combined, today 53 percent of those 65 to 74 report an active sex life, and 26 percent of those between the ages of 75 and 85.

This surge in the urge-to-merge may be because these days folks know aging isn't the same as drying up and blowing away! There are modern ED meds and lubricants that can enhance older relationships. But whatever the reasons, the benefits are heart-pumpingly good: Having a satisfying intimate relationship (or just frequent orgasm) eases stress, protects against cardiovascular woes and strengthens your immune system.

If you want to get in on the action, we suggest you avoid the Five Food Felons and tobacco, keep physically and mentally active and manage stress. (Your largest sex organ is between your ears, after all!) So talk with your partner, deal with physical changes together, and ask your doc for advice, too.
