Dodge The Processed Foods And Cancer Connection

In the 2002 movie "Serving Sara," Matthew Perry plays a hapless process server who uses trickery and a six-pack of beer to achieve an (artificially) enriched lifestyle. A fizzle at the box office, we coulda told him anything that's overly processed never amounts to much in the end. In fact, it can be downright bad for your health (and your career). And if you're serving processed food - dishing up lunch meats, sweetened treats and empty calories - your hope for a healthy, long life and a younger RealAge is gonna fizzle too.

Guys: A new study from New York University says that if you're downing sugary beverages regularly, your risk for prostate cancer triples! Munching pizza, burgers and meat sandwiches? It's doubled. Do that soda and salami sandwich together? Sounds like super-trouble to us!

Gals: You're not off the hook. Those foods KO your immune system, screw up your glucose levels, your heart health, increase breast cancer risk and guarantee a battle of the bulge. But there's good news, too: If you opt for a diet filled with complex carbs found in veggies, fruits and whole grains, you may lower your risk for breast cancer by 67 percent!

For guys and gals: Eating beans, lentils and peas is associated with 32 percent lower risk of all overweight- and obesity-related cancers, including cancer of the esophagus, colon and rectum, endometrium, kidney, thyroid and gallbladder, in addition to prostate and breast. So if you're in the process of pursuing better health, ditch processed foods pronto.
