Achalasia is an esophageal motility disorder characterized by impaired relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter and loss of esophageal peristalsis. The conventional treatment for achalasia has historically been Heller myotomy, a surgical procedure. In this panel discussion, Jayleen Grams, MD and Kondal Kyanam Kabir Baig, MD, examine how Per-Oral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM) has emerged as a viable alternative that can be performed in an incisionless, endoscopic fashion.
