Norovirus causes about 20 million gastroenteritis cases each year in the United States. Anyone can be infected with norovirus and get sick, and, you can get norovirus illness more than once during your life.

There's no vaccine to prevent infection and no drug to treat it.

The illness often begins suddenly. You may feel very sick, with stomach cramping, vomiting, or diarrhea.

Noroviruses are the most common cause of gastroenteritis in the United States. About 1 in every 15 Americans will get norovirus illness each year, so wash your hands often and follow our simple tips to stay healthy.

He joined the faculty at Emory University in 1982. Dr. Keyserling has an interest in virology, hospital epidemiology, and clinical vaccinology. During the last thirty years, he has conducted over 100 clinical vaccine trials in children and adults. He serves as a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Infectious Disease. He is also a liaison member of the federal Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.
