Americans use larger dishware than they did in past decades.

In fact, research has shown that children eat more when served more. But will using larger plates and bowls result in children serving themselves more and therefore consuming more food?

Studies have found now that encouraging parents to use smaller dishware at home can be an effective strategy in controlling age-appropriate portion size and intake during meals.

You can't keep your eye on them all the time, of course. But there are ways to make sure your little ones are the healthiest they can be. Special guest Dr. Jennifer Orlet Fisher shares some helpful tips to keep your kids from chowing down too much.

She received graduate degress in Nutrition from the University of Illinois and the Pennsylvania State University. Her research seeks to understand the early influences on the development of food acceptance and appetite regulation behaviors from birth to five years. She has held leadership roles in The Obesity Society and currently serves as a Co-Executive Editor for the journal Appetite.
