Winter Safety Tips for Your Little Snowman

Whether winter brings severe storms, light dustings of snow or just cold temperatures, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has some valuable tips on how to keep your children safe and warm.

In the winter months, kids often forget to wear something to keep their heads and ears warm. This can be quite dangerous, because even in slightly cold temperatures, kids can quickly develop frostbite or hypothermia.

Another problem can be dehydration. With the cool weather, kids often don't drink as much; so it's important to keep an eye on their liquid intake.

Finally, dry skin during the winter months can be more than just a nuisance... if your kids aren't getting enough moisture, it can lead to painfully dry and itchy skin.

Melanie Cole, MS, and Dr. David Hill discuss winter safety and the things to keep in mind as your little ones go sledding, skating, skiing and just off to school in these cold winter months.
