Vaccine Confidence & Staying On Top of Well Visits

A lot of parents, including our host Melanie, are wondering about well visits for our children. Is it worth it to head to the doctor's office during COVID-19?

To help us navigate doctors' visits and staying up to date on vaccinations during this crazy time is Dr. Candice Jones, a pediatrician, and spokesperson for the AAP.

She talks about safety precautions doctors' offices are taking to stay clean, the importance of immunizations, and the myths about vaccines and autism.

You can also listen to Dr. Candice's own podcast KIDing Around with Dr. Candice.

I am a loving wife, mother, and pediatrician. I am passionate about kids: their innocence; their unbridled potential; and the fact that they are our future!  Please allow me to help you nurture, mold, and guide them into happy and healthy human beings. I promise to give you down-to-earth, fun, and simple kid health and wellness information that will spark conversations of health in your home and inspire positive, lifestyle changes for you and your children.

So a little about me.

Let my family tell it, I was the most independent, sassy, precocious child ever!  I excelled academically and was well rounded in sports and music. I dreamed of being a doctor very early. My mother was a nurse and I always asked to visit the hospital with her. I never imagined doing anything else, especially since I have terrible penmanship and little left brain capability (can’t draw a decent circle, lol).   Nonetheless, it never stopped my will to pursue my destiny.  So to all the beautiful children in the world, you can be anything you want to be, just trust and believe!

My path to medicine was by no means traditional. I started off strong but along the way took the FOMO (fear of missing out) detour which left me scrambling. Now you know your girl regrouped, right?   I stood to my feet, shook off the dust and did my work to get back on track. I became a registered nurse, worked and completed premedical requirements, and soon was on my way to medical school. The message here:  Mistakes happen; Learn from them, and NEVER give up (praise break)!

From my experience as a student at the Morehouse School of Medicine, a commitment to the underserved took flight. I purposefully and intentionally continue to work throughout my career with children who are underserved and affected the greatest by health inequality in places where not many doctors want to go.  I strive to break down barriers, dispel myths, and help reduce disparities so that every child has an equal health opportunity.

I love seeing and talking to my patients! However, they are a little complex at times. I don’t believe they are walking away comprehending the complete package; only grasping pieces and parts!   So this website, the blog, the podcast is designed just for you; shedding more light on the important health information that’s easily accessible at all times!  But we’re not going to be selfish, right?  We’re going to share this with the masses.  I’m so grateful to be your trusted kid health resource. Stay tuned and let me know what you think. I can’t wait to hear from you.  Oh, and please don't forget to like, share, comment, subscribe, and follow!
