Autism Linked to Air Pollution

A recent study that's been getting some buzz indicates that environmental toxins plays a role in autism. Now, it's not definitive that pollution is a direct cause, but it IS linked. The more a child is exposed to these toxins, the greater the chance they will suffer from this developmental disease.

A related topic surrounds the concept of obesogens. Obesogens are endocrine disruptors -- natural and man-made chemicals that alter the regulatory system that controls your weight, increasing the fat cells you have, decreasing the calories you burn, and even altering the way your body manages hunger. Some example include High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS), BPA and pesticides such as atrazine. This may also have an effect on expectant moms and autism. It was previously believed that women who were overweight during pregnancy had a higher likelihood of bearing a child with autism; now it is believed that obesogens are the culprit.
