Pasta or Pinot Grigio; would you rather save your calories for booze or food?
Despite knowing the severe health issues related to eating disorders, studies have shown that 30% of women between ages 18 and 23 diet so they can drink. A recently released documentary called Lipstick and Liquor shows how women are not taking binge drinking and alcoholism seriously.
"Drunkorexia" refers to someone who restricts food calories to make room for alcoholic drink calories. Others that fall in this category may purge their food and alcoholic drinks to avoid the calories. Drunkorexic behaviors most often stem from the fear of weight gain from alcohol and are more prevalent in college-aged women; although men also suffer. (Health)
This is a dangerous routine, often exercised by college-aged women, who are worried about gaining the dreaded "freshman 15." This reckless type of drinking can wreak havoc on your body and brain.
