Stress definitely comes with a cause and effect in our daily lives.

The cause can be anything from money to relationships and the effect is sickness and disease. Yes, stress is that dangerous to your health. So, how do you take a step back and de-stress before your worries take hold?

Recently, Dr. Simpkins appeared with Dr. Mehmet Oz on his syndicated television show, The Dr. Oz Show, where she debunked “medical myths” including the myth that caffeine stunts your growth.  

    Growing up in Maplewood, New Jersey, Dr. Simpkins was greatly influenced by her mother and father. Her father, also a doctor, was known as the original “Marcus Welby.” Dr. Simpkins attended Bucknell University and graduated cum laude in 1980 with a degree in psychology. She originally planned on getting a PhD in psychology when her mother said, “Why spend 5 years getting that degree when you can get a medical degree in four years?” Her mother’s insight aided Dr. Simpkins’ decision to attend medical school instead. 

    Dr. Simpkins graduated from The Chicago Medical School in 1984 and passed the National Board of Medical Examiners certification exam one year later. She completed both her internship and residency in internal medicine at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx. In 1989 Dr. Simpkins received her certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine. 

    Today, Dr. Simpkins is affiliated with St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey. In addition to her solo practice, Dr. Simpkins is also a Medical Advisor for the state of New Jersey. 

    Dr. Simpkins values being a mom, above all things, to her to her 26-year-old son and 23- and 24-year-old daughters. Every Saturday, Dr. Simpkins visits her children in New York City. She also enjoys running, hot yoga and spin throughout the week. Dr. Simpkins currently resides in New Jersey with her husband.
