7 Non-Workouts for the Person Who Hates Working Out

Written by

Sometimes, working out feels more like a boring chore you have to do than something that is good for you. It's no surprise such an attitude takes all the fun out of it.

Whether because of a busy lifestyle or constantly trying to catch up with everything you need to do (sometimes there just aren’t enough days in a week), you get so tired that exercising is literally the last thing you want to do.

Here are some great anti-workout workouts for those who don't feel like exercising… or just plain hate it.

1) Dancing
One of the best ways to exercise when you don't like exercising is to enroll in dance cardio classes. They’ll get you moving, and you will have so much fun that you won't even notice you are actually working out. Dance cardio training will get your blood pumping while you're jamming to your favorite music and increase your energy levels so you feel the boost.

2) Hiking
Hiking through the woods is a great full-body workout that is perfect for all of you anti-sports outdoor-lovers. It’s a great way to distract yourself from the fact you are being physically active, because you’ll focus on exploring the terrain and enjoy some fresh air, away from all the hustle and bustle of a populous city. Hiking will have a stronger impact on your body if there are lots of hills. There may even be some running involved, especially if you hear an unexpected sound from the bushes behind you!

3) Water Workouts
If you love being around water and swimming, why not burn some calories and take up paddle boarding. You’ll be so concentrated on keeping your balance you won't even notice that you’re actually working out your core. Swimming is a low-impact exercise that benefits your whole body and makes you stronger. One more perk? The calming effect water naturally brings and being surrounded with meditative sounds of water movement.

4) Cycling
This is probably one of the best anti-workout workouts there is, since it not only constitutes physical activity, but it serves as a means of travel. Grab your bike and start cycling instead of driving to work and you will quickly see the results. Cycling is a low-impact activity that increases strength and stamina.

5) Yoga Classes
The best persuasive argument to finally start practicing yoga is to explain its benefits. This time-tested workout makes you stronger, burns unwanted body fat, increases your endurance levels and makes you more “elastic.” Plus, it generally has a calming effect. You can choose one of many yoga classes and make your workouts more dynamic if that is what gets you going. Practice yoga indoors or outdoors, enjoying wonderful scenery while you Namaste – a sunset near the beach makes the perfect setting.

6) Walking
You may not realize it, but walking is as good of a workout as jogging. If you want to make it more appealing, just find a good place to walk, put on some music and start exploring the area. You can choose parks, urban trails, and beaches -- or wherever is most convenient. Avoid driving or taking a bus to work so you can walk even more. If you want to see more rapid results, start speed walking.

7) Team Sports
Taking up a team sport might be the best solution if you are a people person. It’s a great way to meet people, socialize and exercise at the same time. An even better option is taking up a team sport with a friend, because that way both of you can motivate each other to exercise and regularly attend practices.

As you well know, working out should be a part of your daily routine in order to lead a healthier lifestyle. Even if you're not a big fan, you must admit you feel good about yourself when you engage in a physical activity. Start with some of these non-workouts until you make a regular habit of it.
