From An Addictive Lifestyle to Masters Swimming: An 82 Year-Old Champion Swimmer’s Remarkable Transformation
Featuring:
DeEtte Sauer

After conquering multiple destructive addictive behaviors, DeEtte Sauer became a swimmer. At age 58 she received her first swim lesson….competing in her first swim meet 3 months later. Water became the new obsession of the former local broadcast executive. Sports were unavailable to women in her growing-up years, squelching any dreams of a sport, a team or a medal but in 1999 everything changed for the deprived sports enthusiast. The athletic newcomer has never recovered from the thrill of that first competition and now participates in national, regional and local events each year. She has won U. S. Masters national championships, many U. S. Senior Games gold medals and in 2021 she became number one in the world in the 200 meter butterfly. At age 82, DeEtte is a spokesperson for National Senior Games while delivering motivational speeches, broadcast interviews and print media articles across the nation.
