Caroline McGugin, MD
Dr. Caroline McGugin is a fellowship-trained breast surgeon who received her training in Breast Surgical Oncology at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham & Women’s Hospital, and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA. Her clinical practice is dedicated to the multidisciplinary care of invasive breast cancer, DCIS, and benign breast disease. She is trained in oncoplastic procedures, including breast conserving treatment and nipple-sparing mastectomy. Dr. McGugin is originally from Dallas and attended Vanderbilt University, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Chemistry. She received her medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas and completed general surgery training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. While in residency, she completed a research fellowship in surgical outcomes and also obtained her Masters of Science in Public Health with a focus in clinical and translational sciences. Her work has been published in Annals of Surgical Oncology, Annals of Surgery, JAMA Surgery, Clinical Breast Cancer, Breast Cancer Research & Treatment, The American Journal of Surgery, and Journal of Surgical Research.
In her spare time, Dr. McGugin enjoys spending time with her husband and son. She likes to travel, cook, and spend time at the beach. Dr. McGugin joined Infirmary Surgical Specialists in December 2018.
 Dr. McGugin specializes in the multidisciplinary treatment of breast disease. She works closely with radiologists, pathologists, genetic counselors, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, and plastic surgeons to develop a personalized treatment plan designed to maximize long-term health and minimize side effects.
