Let's DISH with Marketing!
Gina: Welcome to the Iowa Specialty Hospitals and Clinics ISH Dish Podcast, practical Health Advice from Iowa Specialty Experts. We want to connect the members of our communities with the latest healthcare information that's understandable, relatable, and useful to your daily life. With us in the studio today, we have Nikki Conlon, and Nikki is the marketing assistant for our team. And we are just going to dish on all the fun things going on at Iowa specialty hospitals and clinics.
Nikki Conlon: Hi Gina. I am happy to be here today.
Gina: You're such a bright sun, shiny part of my day. .
Nikki Conlon: Aw, Well, thank you.
Gina: So we have a lot of fun stuff going on at Iowa Specialty hospitals and obviously the marketing department is heavily involved in a lot of those things, and I rely heavily on you to keep it all organized. So thank you for that.
Nikki Conlon: You're very welcome. It is a pleasure. I like to be an organized person. I have an organized soul, so it, yeah, it's right up my alley.
Gina: And, just to be transparent. Mm-hmm. , Nikki and I kill a lot of trees.
Nikki Conlon: Oh my goodness. I print so many things. Yes.
Gina: That's the problem you have when you have two visual learners in the room. We have another. Person on our, staff who doesn't ever print anything. And I can't, for the life of me understand how she keeps track of things.
Nikki Conlon: me either. we are running out of folders and it's all my fault because I need a folder for everything.
Gina: So I see that you have a few of those folders front of you today. So let's talk about some things going on that our public might be interested in knowing about?
Nikki Conlon: Yes, absolutely. Well, one of our fantastic service lines that we have through Iowa Weight Loss Specialists down in Des Moines, we have moved into a new building. We were in West Des Moines over by Jordan Creek, but we are very excited to be in this fantastic new building that is down on Thornton Boulevard. And they have moved in. They have been seeing patients for the last month and a half or so, and we're excited to have their ribbon cutting coming up here on Thursday, January 19th. And that, yeah, that's gonna be a lot of fun. It's going to be an opportunity for the providers and staff to show off their new space to the public.
This is something, however, that if you want to attend, you do have to register because it's being promoted. Des Moines chamber of And so they are, if you check out our social media, our Facebook page, we do have an event and as well as on the Iowa Weight Loss Specialist Facebook page, there is an event created as well as opposed then it has that information. So if you would like to attend, we would love to have you there. You just have to register so that we can get a number ahead of time.
Gina: And let's just stick in a little shameless plug for those Facebook pages, Iowa Specialty Hospitals and clinics, Iowa Weight Loss Specialists.
Nikki Conlon: We have orthopedic specialists, we have the Meadows. We also partner with Gabrielson Clinic for Women and the Gabrielson Med Spa.
Gina: Yes, an orthopedics. So all the things just go out there like and follow. You might learn a little thing or two .
Nikki Conlon: Absolutely. Absolutely.
Gina: Okay. So we have the ribbon cutting at Iowa weight loss specialist on the 19th from four to six. And again, if you are a, patient and you want to participate, you have to register. That is required.
Nikki Conlon: Yep, absolutely. very easy to do. Just go to our social media. We'll even, try and get it on their, website as well. I Weight loss specialist website so that you can find that link there too. Also for I Weight Loss Specialists, we have their annual celebration walk coming on May 6th. This is very exciting because the last year, I believe was virtual because of COVID and so.
Gina: We did it Virtually,
Nikki Conlon: I believe, I did not participate in that. However, well, and we should mention this annual celebration walk. This is for patients nav, bio weight specialist. This is for either current or former patients, just to celebrate all of success that they have achieved through their work with either the surgical or the medical weight loss team at Iowa Weight loss specialists. They're holding that in Ames at Ada Hayden Park on May 6th.
I
Gina: love that park.
I
Nikki Conlon: Know. It's so beautiful. It's a great big figure eight. And I think the route will just be one of the circles. There may be a choice for two circles, but I think it's just the one circle. It's just an opportunity for former patients to get together with the providers and the staff of Iowa weight loss and just celebrate all of their accomplishment. And they'll have, I believe in the past they've had raffle prizes and t-shirts, that kind of thing. So that's all the planning is underway for that.
Gina: You know, and the thing is too, I, think about this with Iowa weight loss specialists, especially now that we're into January, and obviously weight losses on everybody's mind for the most part, and starting over new year's resolutions. It's interesting with the weight loss surgery, it doesn't stop there. Once the surgery is done, I feel like. , that's when the hard work begins. I have two family members who went through that surgery and it's not a cakewalk.
Nikki Conlon: No, it isn't the great thing about Iowa weight loss is that they, treat the whole patient from beginning to continue. They don't just provide the fantastic surgery for you, which they do. It continues on with the registered dieticians help you with your eating habits. There are mental health providers who help you with your, frame of mind for everything. They're there for you every step of the way, and they continue on. So,
Gina: Yeah. Because if you've ever tried to lose weight, which I think most of us have, it's mental, a huge part of it. My husband always says, it's not my stomach that's hungry, it's my taste buds, I said it is your brain.
Nikki Conlon: Or, it's because I'm bored and think I need to be doing something. I mean, and I'm not, yeah, I'm not a provider there. I'm not a mental health counselor there either. But I mean, and beyond the surgery part, they also help with medical weight loss. So if you're not a candidate for surgery, maybe that's not what you need. They help you in the medical sense as well.
Gina: Yeah. So check them out for sure. All right. What else you got?
Nikki Conlon: Oh, well, we do have, for the past year, so we have had a monthly newsletter for Iowa Weight loss, or well, we did one for Iowa Weight Loss, but we originated our monthly email newsletters to former or current Iowa Specialty Hospital patients. We continue to do that each month. We try to highlight different locations, providers, different services, and different points of interest for all of our patients. And what we are starting to do is we're going to be. Clinic specific newsletters.
For example, if you live in Webster City and you want to know more about the Webster City Clinic there, we're going to give you specific information to that clinic. And then we will, send that out to Webster City area residents and residents who live in the surrounding communities as well. And these are also newsletters that may, I don't live in Webster City, I live in Clarion. But if I wanna get that, I can still subscribe to that and I can still get that information.
Gina: Yeah, I think this is a brilliant idea, just because we are always inundated with information. So if you can get something in your inbox that's completely relevant to you in your area, perfect.
Nikki Conlon: Absolutely. So we're gonna roll out that now that we've started the new year. And just periodically we'll have different clinics being highlighted each month with clinic specific newsletters.
Gina: And then, like you said, we have the Iowa Weight Loss newsletter. It's called Lifespan. And then we have our, overall. the Ish Experience newsletter, which covers everybody. we're doing the podcast.
Nikki Conlon: Mm-hmm.
Gina: We have radio ads, newspaper. I mean, there's so many different avenues of ways to connect with us. you just don't have any excuses to say, I didn't hear about that. Right.
Nikki Conlon: Absolutely, yes. Especially on our social media. We try to, whenever we post new information, try to, refer you back to our website because that's where the bulk of the information is gonna be. Either in the form of articles, blog posts, or just updated information with our providers and services.
Gina: And I, think too, you know, this podcast has been a long time coming and we're hoping that each guest that we have on resonates with somebody at some point. Because at some point you might need a gastroenterologist. At some point you may need your colonoscopy, or you might need an allergist. I mean, the list goes on and on. We all have bodies and they start to break down, unfortunately.
Nikki Conlon: That's for sure.
Gina: So, all right, well, that was a quick and dirty just kind of like what's going on right now, and, we just wanted to get that information pushed out. Happy New Year to you.
Nikki Conlon: Thank you, and happy New Year to you too.
Gina: Everybody listening let's make it a good one. And I'm, excited. I feel like I love New Beginnings.
Nikki Conlon: I think everybody, after the New Year's, you're recharged, you're ready to go. You have new goals that you've set, new things that you want to accomplish. So I think it's a great time to, get started on maybe new things for health and wellness as well
Gina: absolutely. Find an accountability partner.
Nikki Conlon: Absolutely. My daughter's gonna do that for me.
