What's Involved in an Eye Exam?

What should you expect during your eye exam?
If you've never had an eye exam before, you might not know what to expect.

In this segment, host of The Wizard of Eyes, Dr. Robert Abel, describes the various components of a routine eye exam.

The seven major components of an eye exam are:
  1. Visual Acuity Test
  2. Refraction Test
  3. Visual Field Test
  4. External Exam
  5. Slit Lamp Exam
  6. Glaucoma Test
  7. Funduscopic Exam

With each of the seven steps there is information that can lead to diagnoses such as glaucoma, cataracts, and even other medical issues in other parts of the body.

It's important that patients be referred to an eye doctor for simple eye problems but also for headaches, dizziness, and double vision.
