Anxiety is treatable, but 80 percent of kids with a diagnosable anxiety disorder are not getting treatment. Anxiety is a normal part of childhood, and every child goes through phases, which is normal.

Ioana Pal, PsyD is here to explain how research shows that untreated children with anxiety disorders are at higher risk to perform poorly in school, miss out on important social experiences, and engage in substance abuse.

Dr. Pal is the clinical psychologist at the Stramski Children’s Developmental Center, MemorialCare Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach, where she supports the medical team through psychological assessments, appropriate referrals, treatment recommendations and support for patients and their families.
Her clinical experience includes working with children, adolescents and adults. She has worked with children in foster care, youth on probation, children and teens with emotional, behavioral and developmental problems, as well as medically fragile children. Dr. Pal has worked with individuals, couples and families dealing with substance abuse/dependence, marital conflict, adoption, physical and sexual abuse, and poverty. She has received training and certification in suicide prevention, trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy, and mediation.
