The True Definition of Diet

Whether you're talking to a family member, friend, or co-worker, it seems like the topic of diet perpetually comes up.

With a new day comes a new diet trend, or a healthier diet, or the not-so-healthy diet.

And, it seems like everyone likes to compare each one under a microscope, which has led the concept of diet to carry a negative tone.

What does the word diet actually mean?

According to Merriam-Webster, the definitions of the word diet include: 1) food and drink regularly provided or consumed, 2) habitual nourishment.

Instead of thinking of which foods are bad for you, or which foods you should be eating, what if you thought about the word diet simply as a way to nourish yourself?

How else can you change the negative connotation of "diet"?

Holly Lucille, ND, RN, shares what dieting truly means and how you change the way you perceive it.
