Oro House is an award-wining inpatient and outpatient treatment center with locations in southern California, dedicated to healing those struggling with drug and alcohol addiction as well as underlying mental health issues.
At the head of this organization is Evan Haines. Evan and his co-founder Jared Valentine started Oro House in 2010. As an active participant in the recovery world, it felt natural for Evan to transition into the sober living business and help others obtain and maintain sobriety. He has been sober since November 2nd, 2005, and is currently a Doctoral Candidate at Pacifica Graduate Institute’s Clinical Psychology Program, specializing in Depth Psychology.
Evan joins Erica in this episode to talk about sober living, choosing the right language to describe your journey, and the Compassionate Care Model® for mental health and addiction dual diagnosis treatment.

In 2010, he and Jared Valentine founded the roots of Oro House, which is less than three years, became one of the most successful sober living residences in the area. Evan has a natural ability to connect with clients and bring out a sense of hope in them.
Evan has a Master’s Degree in Community Development Planning from the University of British Columbia. His strong academic background, coupled with years of hands-on experience doing community-organizing work with non-profits, makes him a great asset to the Oro House team.
An example of this is the ‘Oro House Farms’ project, an exercise in community economic development. It gives clients valuable work experience in a variety of areas, while simultaneously building their self-esteem, as they feel part of something larger than themselves, and positively affect those around them.
