Dennis Roy, MD (Guest): I love working for The Shriners because I can provide the care without worrying about financial impact on the families.

Hello, my name is Dr. Dennis Roy. I’m a pediatric orthopedic surgeon at the Portland Unit of The Shriners Hospital, having moved here from Cincinnati in 2002. What drew me to The Shriners is their mission of providing excellent family-based care as well as combining it with clinical and basic research and education of residents, fellows, nurses, as well as our families.

What one thing people don’t know about me is that I am an avid scuba diver and take underwater photography.

I would like people to know that my philosophy of care is to provide what I would want a family member to have. I would want a compassionate doctor that listened to the patient which is always the child and then get the family to have their backup as well as provide them the education they need for their underlying diagnosis, treatment options, helping them guide them to a combined decision as to what the appropriate treatment going forward is.
