Dr Philip Ernest: Hi. Thank you for listening to this podcast. I'm Dr. Phillip Ernest, and I'm a surgeon here at San Juan Regional Medical Center. I'm also the director of our new metabolic and bariatric program. For the past year, we've been working to develop a program to treat metabolic and bariatric disease.

In late spring of 2023, we will be opening the Metabolic and Bariatric Institute at San Juan Regional Medical Center. This program will be able to treat patients that desire weight loss. We are going to be able to treat patients with both surgical. And medical modalities to assist with weight loss. This means that we can come up with a plan that meets the goals of the patient to assist them with weight loss.

There's lots of benefits of weight loss, and particularly with bariatric surgery, you see significant improvement in management of high blood. Diabetes heart disease, obstructive sleep apnea, and the list goes on. Some patients achieve complete resolution of high blood pressure and diabetes. Our program is going to look at the whole patient.

We really want to design a plan with the best recommendation to achieve the patient's goals to attain long lasting weight loss with improvement in associated diseases. At the Metabolic and Bariatric Institute, patients will also meet with a dietician as well as discuss weight loss with a mental health counselor to assist with expectations and behavior modification, as well as to understand other challenges that may exist to weight loss.

There are a lot of pieces that will be put together with our program to really meet the whole patient, and that's one of the many things we're really excited. So keep an eye out for this. We should be opening up in late spring of 2023. Initially, we will be taking referrals from providers in our four corners community. That will be the best way to be initiated into the program.

We look forward to helping the community in 2023 meet the goals of healthy Living, and I hope everyone has a great rest of your day.
