The Joy of Entertaining with the Bar-D Wranglers
Joel Racheff: Well, hi, everybody. This is Joel Racheff. They call me JR, and I am one of the musicians for the Bar-D Wranglers. And I'd like to talk to you about what a great job I have working at the Bar-D Chuckwagon in Durango, Colorado, and playing upright bass for them fantastic Wranglers. Of course, I am the best looking Wrangler.
I might not be the youngest, but I'm the most seasoned. And I'm also the fat guy in the band, if you remember the silly guy over there on the left. But, I work at the Bar-D Chuckwagon. And, we're open every night in the summer and we have a great time. It's a great place to work.
It's an infectious environment. The musicians in the band are fantastic. In fact, I'm the only guy in the band I never heard of. We open every night in the summer, and then the band travels around when the place closes down for the winter, and we are a four piece cowboy band. We play songs about horses and cows and hangings and gunfights.
We don't sing about trucks or mama or getting drunk, and that's the difference. We're a western band. The Chuck wagon itself, we serve you dinner. And then do a dinner show. We have a whole facility out there with an old West town and shops, a little train that goes around the property, playground for the kids.
We're very family friendly. It's just an infectious environment to be part of. And I feel very fortunate. I'm lucky to have that job. I got it about 20 years ago. I grew up in Farmington, New Mexico and I've been living in Durango since 1989, 1989. Been in the band 20 years.
We got old Gary Cook playing that great flat top guitar. And he is a force to be reckoned with on the guitar. If you've never heard him, you need to hear this man. Two time national flat picking champion. We got Matt Palmer on the fiddle. He's been in the band 25 years now. Gary's been in the band 35 years. So we are seasoned veterans, to say the least.
But we'd love to have you come out and visit us if you get a chance. And if you can't make it, well, that's too bad for you. You're missing out on a little piece of Americana that's not around too many places anymore. So come on out. That's just north of Durango. And outside of that, I'll just tell you that be better to your neighbor and you'll have a better neighbor.
See you later.
