Exciting Growth at the Museum: The Building of the Pavilion
Christa Chapman: Hello, I'm Christa Chapman. I am the Director of the Brand New Department of Cultural Affairs at the City of Farmington. And I am talking to you today about the Market Pavilion that is being built next to the Farmington Museum on Main Street, probably a lot of people have seen the construction going on recently.
So, that is slated to open at the end of August. That's what we're hoping. And the very first tenants that will be in there is the Farmington growers market. So, that pavilion, again, it's right next to the Farmington Museum. So, the museum staff is helping to manage that facility and the rentals of it, and it is a beautiful multipurpose building that will sit inside Gateway Park, which is still being developed there to the west of the Farmington Museum. And part of that will include a connection to the river trails, which will stretch back behind the Farmington Museum. You'll get a beautiful view of the back terrace there at the museum. And then, you'll also have a great view of the new white water wave feature that's being installed in Animas River. And that project will be done sometime in June.
So, the pavilion, again, it's a multipurpose facility. And so, it is meant to be able to be used year round. Originally, it was slated to be an open air pavilion, but it has gotten a lot of upgrades as we develop the project. So, there will be big bay doors that can open to make it an open air market, but there are restrooms in there and there's a small prep kitchen as well. It also has an AV system installed. So, it's a perfect place to host events, wedding receptions, banquets, art markets, all kinds of really cool big public and private events.
So again, the grower's market will be the main tenants. They're going to be in there Saturdays. Their season runs June 21st through November 1st. So, they'll be moving in at the end of August, and be in there every Saturday morning through November 1st. In the meantime, they will be open in the museum parking lot like they have been for years. But now, it's pretty exciting. They will be able to add two Saturdays a month throughout the rest of the year, so they'll be able to operate year round now with the addition of the pavilion, since it does have ambient heating inside.
So if you would like to rent the new Market Pavilion for a private event or a host a public event, you can find pricing information on that on the Farmington Museum website. So, that's farmingtonmuseum.org. And you can also call the museum, either just Google that or call 505-599-1174. That's 505-599-1174. And you can start to get information about how you can rent that beautiful facility for your events. And I will say, it pairs really nicely with, say, a wedding on the back terrace, and then maybe you want to have the reception inside at the pavilion. So, we're really excited to be hosting more Farmington events at the Farmington Museum facility. Thank you and have a great day.
