San Juan Medical Foundation: Enhancing the Health of the Four Corners
Audra Winter: Hi. My name is Audra Winters. And I'm the Executive Director for the San Juan Medical Foundation. Today, I would like to share with you what the foundation does and how you can get involved. The mission of the San Juan Medical Foundation is to enhance the health and wellbeing of the people of the Four Corners Community.
The foundation was founded in 1985 by a group of citizens just like yourself, who envisioned an organization through which every member of the community could be involved in changing the health of our region. As a community 501(c)(3) foundation, we serve alongside San Juan Regional Medical Center to help meet the community's healthcare needs and goals. Some of our most proud achievements have been building the original cancer treatment center in Farmington, raising funds to purchase equipment for their cardio cath lab at the hospital, assisting in purchasing a new community van to provide patients free transportation to and from medical appointments, and provide funds to relocate and redesign the pediatric unit at the hospital.
The foundation just agreed to fund the development of a simulation lab to support the new internal medicine residency program here at the hospital. In addition to serving alongside the hospital, the foundation owns and operates the Conley Hospitality House, an 8,000 square foot patient lodging facility, which is located on the south side of the hospital. The Conley Hospitality House provides a safe and comfortable home for patients and their caregivers who must travel 50 miles or more for cancer treatment in Farmington. When rooms are available, we open the home up to families of those hospitalized with a traumatic injury or medical emergency who meet the distance requirements. Reservations are required and guests must have a referral from a case manager, social worker, or doctor. All guests must be 18 years or older to stay at the house and have a permanent residency. The house can accommodate up to eight families. Each room has its own private bathroom. There's a spacious kitchen, a well-stocked pantry, a laundry room, and a beautiful outdoor area. In addition to the Conley Hospitality house, the foundation has three RV spots with full hookups if guests prefer to bring their own RV. There's no charge to stay at the Conley House. However, donations are always welcome. If you've never seen the house, I would love to give you a tour. Just call the foundation to make arrangements.
Each year over 400 walkers join us in the annual walkathon to raise funds to benefit the Conley Hospitality House. This year's Walkathon will be held on Saturday, September 19th, 2026 at LockE Street Eats in downtown Farmington. I hope you'll make plans to attend this year's walkathon, you can walk with your family, your friends, or join the hospital team.
The foundation also maintains the administration of two patient support funds, which include the Cathy Lincoln Memorial Cancer Fund and the Riley Men's Health Fund. The Cathy Lincoln Memorial Cancer Fund assist women in San Juan County, 18 years of age or older who are uninsured or underinsured battling any type of cancer. We provide financial assistance with medical bills related to cancer treatment. We can also assist women with a new wig or undergarments. On average, we assist over 150 women a year. The Riley Men's Health Fund provides financial assistance to uninsured and underinsured men who reside in San Juan County. For health services of any kind, men need to be 18 years or older to receive help from the fund. Approximately 200 men are helped each year through the Men's Health Fund.
For both the Cathy Lincoln Memorial Cancer Fund and the Riley Men's Health Fund, a simple application must be completed and approved to receive assistance. Payments for service are forwarded directly to the provider for the service and never directly to the applicant. The San Juan Medical Foundation carefully monitors each request for financial assistance distributions are managed directly through the foundation's administrative office and the board of directors. If you know of anyone who could benefit from either one of these funds, please have them contact the San Juan Medical Foundation for assistance.
The foundation hosts fundraisers to help support each of our programs. For the past seven years, a side-by-side raffle has been held to raise money for the Riley Men's Health Fund. Not only does the raffle raise money for the men in our community, but it also helps get the word out about what we do. The Cathy Lincoln Memorial Cancer Fund host a women's cancer awareness luncheon and style show each year to bring awareness to the different types of cancer women can suffer from. It is also an opportunity for the foundation to raise funds.
