Looking to lose weight and improve your overall wellness? This 10-day cleanse might be the secret to your success. If you're looking to jump-start your weight loss or simply improve your overall health and wellness, a cleanse can be a great way to go about that.Special guest and nutritionist, JJ Smith, has nearly perfected a 10-day cleanse which not only helps with weight loss, but can help you reach varying goals such as anti-aging, athletic performance, beauty, bones and joints, detoxification... just to name a few. After much trial and error, JJ figured out the best combinations for each of these benefits, while making them taste good too. Which, is obviously very important if you're going to stick to the 10-day cleanse. She joins Andrea and Lisa to answer some key questions about how the cleanse works and what you can expect in terms of results. What are some of the ins and outs of the cleanse?First and foremost, says JJ, it's NOT a starvation diet. Every day you're drinking green smoothies for breakfast and lunch, and for your dinner, you'll eat a clean meal filled with lots of protein. Now, if you want to accelerate your weight loss a bit, you could also do smoothies for dinner. There is also a long list of approved snacks, such as hard-boiled eggs, nuts and seeds, that you can nosh on throughout the day in order to feel full and nourished. What are some of the benefits? Weight loss is a big one, of course. But you'll also achieve mental clarity and improved digestion, not to mention the beauty benefits of healthier hair, skin and nails. Plus, this cleanse essentially "retrains" your taste buds in a way that you'll want to continue eating healthy long past the 10 days. What sorts of "tools" do you need to embark on this cleanse? A simple blender should do the trick... you don't need to spend a huge amount of money on something like the high-powered Vitamix (unless it's something you really want to continue for the years to come). The most important thing to keep in mind is that for ease, you'll want to use a blender that's at least 1000 watts. You can still use a blender that's less powerful than that; it just means you'll have to blend longer (from 30 seconds to two minutes). Some cleanses and juice/smoothie plans come under attack because they are high in sugar, and can be especially problematic for people who suffer from blood sugar imbalances. How does this cleanse differ? Many people who have blood sugar issues (such as diabetes) are suffering due to the processed "white" sugar they're consuming, whether through sweets or refined carbs like breads and cereals. This type of sugar causes your blood sugar to spike and results in insulin imbalances. The sugar contained in fruits and vegetables doesn't cause these spikes; in fact, it does the opposite. Your body knows how to metabolize these sugars and will actually help stabilize your blood sugar levels. Many people have even been able to come off prescription medications after completing the cleanse. Does this particular detox include the typical "symptoms" that many individuals report when participating in a cleanse?Almost every detox program is going to result in some of these symptoms, which can include foggy brain, fatigue, headaches and congestion. But, don't be discouraged. What you're feeling is simply an indication that the cleanse is working. The toxins within your system temporarily recirculate a bit before they are completely expelled. Once they are released, you can expect to feel much more energized.
