John Zografakis, MD
John Zografakis, MD, FACS, FASMBS, is a Professor of Surgery at NEOMED (Northeast Ohio Medical University), Director of Advanced Laparoscopic Surgical Services, Co-Director of the Weight Management Institute and Associate Program Director of the surgical fellowship in Advanced Minimally Invasive, Foregut and Bariatric Surgery. He completed his surgical residency at Summa Health System in 2003 and a fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery from Evanston Northwestern Healthcare in 2004. He returned to Summa Health to start the Summa Weight Management Institute in 2004. In addition to his passion for minimally invasive, foregut and weight loss surgery, he specializes in laparoscopic colon surgery (for benign and malignant disease), laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery and abdominal wall hernia surgery. Dr. Zografakis has presented at local, regional and national meetings and has published numerous book chapters and peer-reviewed journals on minimally invasive and bariatric surgery.

Host: I'm here with Dr. John Zografakis from Summa Health. What services are provided at Summa's Weight Management Institute?
Dr. John Zografakis: At Summa Health, we have both medical and surgical programs to help manage the disease of obesity. Our medical program utilizes a multidisciplinary approach to patient care, coordinated by board-certified obesity medicine physicians that specialize in creating an individual treatment plan that may often include medication therapy.
Host: Can you tell us a little bit about the Surgical Weight Loss Program at Summa?
Dr. John Zografakis: We have a robust surgical program that includes fellowship-trained laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgeons. We are able to offer minimally invasive surgical approach for laparoscopic gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, single-anastomosis duodenal ileostomy, or SADI, as well as any procedures for laparoscopic revisional surgery. Both programs are complemented by advanced practice providers, including physician assistants, nurse practitioners, psychologists, and dietitians.
