Chew on This with Kim Barnouin: Poop Particles, Texting Stupidity & TV-Infertility Link

Dr. Friedman and Kim chew on fecal particles from restroom hand dryers, why texting makes you "stupid," and how watching TV can impact libido and fertility.

Poop Particles
Hand dryers in public restrooms may be spraying fecal particles onto your hands. A study showed that 18-30 colonies of bacteria get expelled, including the fecal matter. Fecal bacteria can also exist in your own home bathroom, including your toothbrush.

Is texting making you stupid? Research shows that it diminishes your brain's linguistic ability to interpret and accept words. On the other hand, reading books and newspapers stimulates cognition.

TV & Infertility
According to a Harvard study, watching TV lowers sperm production and decreases libido. Men who view more than 20 hours weekly have a 44 percent lower sperm count than those who watch a minimal amount. These individuals are also more likely to eat fatty foods and exercise less.

Kim Barnouin
Kim BarnouinBefore she was a Skinny Bitch, Kim Barnouin was a high school drop-out turned model who only crossed paths with a vegetable on her pizza. Today she is the co-author of the New York Times Bestseller, Skinny Bitch, with its sequels Skinny Bitch in the Kitch, Skinny Bitch: Bun in the Oven, Skinny Bitch: Just Bitchin, and a line of fitness DVDs.

As a kid, Kim used to spit veggies into her napkin. As a young adult, she couldn't get enough of earth's treats. It was during this transition that Kim became obsessed with nutrition. She got her hands on every book and enrolled in a Bachelor's program in Natural Health.

She wouldn't stop there.

This retired beach bum went on to receive a Master's in Holistic Nutrition and is currently working on her PhD. Learning about how food affects and heals many diseases and illnesses was something she wanted to share with everyone.
