Encore Episode: Debunking Common Breast Cancer Myths

Breast cancer is the number one killer of females ages 20 to 59.

Many people believe that family history and genetics determines who gets breast cancer. Actually, this isn’t true.

In fact, 87 percent of women diagnosed with breast cancer don’t have a single first-degree relative with the disease.

Dr. Kristi Funk joins Dr. Friedman to discuss preventative care and what to do after a diagnosis. Dr. Funk also busts many of today's most common breast cancer myths, including:

  • Does hormone replacement therapy play a role in the cause of breast cancer?
  • Will putting a cell phone in your bra cause breast cancer?
  • Does consuming soy cause breast cancer?
  • Are bio-identical hormones safe?
  • What foods will help prevent breast cancer and which ones are linked to causing the disease?
  • What is considered “public enemy #1” when it comes to the cause of breast health?
  • Do EMF (electromagnetic fields) cause cancer?
  • What are environmental toxins and how can you avoid them?
  • What herbs are effective at helping reduce menopause symptoms?
  • Does coffee or chocolate cause inflammation of the breasts?
  • Angelina Jolie made the decision to have a preventative mastectomy after finding out she had the BRCA 1 gene mutation. What exactly is this gene and when should you be tested for it?

  • Find out the answers to these questions and more in this episode from April 2019.
