Stimulating Your Mind Today For a More Functional Future with Dr. Tommy Wood

The brain is the central driver of our thoughts, memories, relationships, and ability to love, and it’s far more resilient than once believed. Neuroscientist Dr. Tommy Wood, author of the book, The Stimulated Mind, explains that while genetics can influence the risk of cognitive decline, nearly half of dementia cases may be preventable through lifestyle choices like physical activity, good nutrition, quality sleep, mental stimulation, and social connection.

Everyday forgetfulness is usually due to stress, distraction, or lack of sleep—not early dementia—but it can serve as a signal to improve habits. Maintaining brain health requires balancing challenge and recovery: engaging in meaningful, mentally demanding activities while allowing time for rest. Ultimately, staying mentally sharp depends less on fate and more on consistently using and caring for the brain through purposeful, active living.
