James Lenhard, M.D., FACE, FACP, is medical director of Christiana Care Health System's Diabetes & Metabolic Diseases Center, the Diabetes & Metabolic Research Center and Christiana Care's Weight Management Center. He is one of the nation's foremost leaders in diabetes care and research. He has been recognized through the Diabetes Physician Recognition Program of the National Committee for Quality Assurance and the American Diabetes Association for providing high-quality care for diabetes patients.

    Dr. Lenhard joined Christiana Care Health System's Endocrinology section in 1993 and was appointed section chief in 2000. Under his leadership, Christiana Care is ranked among the nation's best in the treatment of hormonal disorders-a category which includes diabetes, thyroid conditions and gastric bypass surgery.

    He also has played a key leadership role in Christiana Care earning other awards for clinical excellence, including the National Committee for Quality Assurance/American Diabetes Association's Provider Recognition Award in 1999 and 2004 and Christiana Care's annual Performance Improvement Award for a project titled "Reduction of Comorbidities in Patients Undergoing Bariatric Surgery."
