- Guest Bio: Barbara Bushman, Ph.D., is a professor at Missouri State University where her main teaching responsibilities are in the areas of exercise testing and prescription. Barbara is been very involved in the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), which recognized her as a Fellow in 1999. She holds four ACSM certifications, Program Director, Clinical Exercise Specialist, Health Fitness Specialist, and Personal Trainer. Within ACSM she serves on a number of national and regional committees as well as the Media Referral Network. She is the editor of ACSM's Complete Guide to Fitness & Health (published by Human Kinetics in 2011). She also is the senior editor of ACSM's Resources for the Personal Trainer, 4th edition. In 2011, she was appointed as an associated editor of ACSM's Health & Fitness Journal and in that role writes the "Wouldn't You Like to Know" column in each issue. Her research interests have focused on human performance including various testing protocols as well as exercise and women. She is the lead author of a book, ACSM's Action Plan for Menopause, which outlines scientifically-based exercise guidelines for women approaching and experiencing menopause. She also has written book chapters focused on exercise program development, including various populations (youth, adults, and diabetes).
