New Study: Glysophate Detected in Breast Milk

Glysophate is a chemical (herbicide) used to kill weeds that is sprayed on many GMO crops.
What's new in natural health news? Andrea and Lisa welcome back special guest, Leah Segedie, mom blogger and health advocate, to discuss the very latest in the world of healthy living.

Glysophate Found in Breast Milk

Glysophate is a chemical (herbicide) used to kill weeds; sprayed on many GMO crops. It is one of the main "ingredients" in Round-Up. When it was approved, it was supposed to be flushed right out of your body and not absorbed by (and stored in) your system.

But a recent pilot study found the chemical in breast milk. High levels of the chemical were found in 3 out of 10 samples in moms across America.

While this particular study was not extensive, it was done in the hopes that the EPA and other agencies will start studying this more in depth. Currently the levels of glysophate allowed by the EPA are about 1000 times higher than levels allowed in Europe.

Even more disturbing? Kids don't have the enzyme to break down glysophate until about 5-6 years of age.

What can you do to protect yourself? Stay away from the "Dirty Dozen," which are the top 12 pesticide-heavy foods determined by the Environmental Working Group.

Father's Obesity Rates and Autism

A recent study revealed that obese fathers had double the rate of kids with autism.

Now, it's very likely these obese men may have more environmental exposure to factors relating to autism development. But still raises the question about what are these men are being exposed to.

NSAIDs in the Hot Seat

NSAIDs (non-steroidal inflammatory drugs) such as Ibuprofen, Aleve, Celebrex, etc. have been found to create gluten-sensitivity, celiac disease and leaky gut syndrome by damaging intestinal lining.

If it gives you any indication how dangerous these drugs are, when they were allowed to be sold over-the-counter, doctors became very concerned because they felt use should truly be monitored.

This is also troubling because 70-80 percent of your immune system is related to your gut.

GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe)

This is a category created by the FDA which creates a loop hole for product approval, especially in the Food Industry. It basically allows companies to use new chemicals based on their own studies without going through the proper FDA channels.
