Laughter truly IS the best medicine.
Humor therapy is actually one of the oldest mind/body therapies, dating back to biblical times (over 2000 years ago). Now, humor therapy is recognized by the AMA.
What are some of the benefits?
Humor therapy can lower your blood pressure, boost your immune system, lower your stress hormones, release endorphins (feel-good chemicals), and overall just help your body become more energetic and filled with positive energy.
Even if your laughter begins as fake or artificial, when others start laughing around you, it eventually becomes natural and therapeutic.
EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), or tapping, involves using your fingertips to tap on the 14 different meridians throughout your body. It is based on the concept of acupressure. It's easy and effective, and can be used in many arenas: people use it to improve health, sports figures use it to improve their game, business professionals use it to improve their success.
Chi gung, which stems from Traditional Chinese Medicine, is another technique that can be used for mind/body therapy. It is based on the fundamental belief of living energy in your body (chi), as well as yin and yang. Tai chi is actually a style of chi gung; one of nearly 3000 different variations. The technique involves moving your body in a way that flows the "good" energy in the direction of health and wellness.
Alan Smith, author of Unbreak Your Health, joins Andrea and Lisa to share more about these specific mind/body therapies and how they can help you in various ways.

Alan Smith has found greater health and happiness thanks to complementary and alternative therapies. Today he wants to share this hope of health with the world with his first book, UnBreak Your Health™.
A few years ago his deteriorating health took him to the finest medical facility in the world, The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Unfortunately they didn't have any solutions for his digestive problems. The doctor managing his case put it simply: "There's good news and bad news. The good news is your condition isn't going to kill you. The bad news is you aren't going to like it and there is very little we can do about it."
Just a few weeks later he discovered a new book by Bruce Lipton, Ph.D., called Biology of Belief. Lipton's book led him to Rob Williams's PSYCH-K® process. With the first signs of improvement he became so excited about complementary and alternative therapies that he began offering PSYCH-K® in.
Even though his journalism degree was decades earlier he dusted off his reporting skills and began researching and writing. As he finished one subject he'd discover one or two more he'd never heard of until eventually UnBreak Your Health™ grew to more than 300 listings. The second edition, now How To UnBreak Your Health™, was published in June, 2010, featuring a new, user-friendly format and 339 new and updated listings in 150 different categories.
Today he enjoys the best health he's had in decades as a direct result of the complementary and alternative therapies included in his book. - Length (mins): 10
