Winter can be a fun time to play outside in the snow or just snuggle in with your loved ones and have a movie night.
But what winter isn't fun for is your skin.
The season naturally brings drier air, which can do the same to your skin. Not to mention the damage those freezing temps does to your outer layer.
Both can leave your skin itchy, irritated and flaky.
You can take precautions, however, to avoid these symptoms.
One of the best things you can do is to exfoliate and get rid of dead skin cells. This will prepare your skin for the moisturizer you put on it.
You can even make an exfoliating scrub at home, using course sea salt, olive oil, sweet almond oil and your favorite essential oil. Massage this mixture all over your body, including the extra-dry parts such as your elbows, knees, heels and hands.
You should also be using a soap-free cleanser and/or body wash. Soap dries out your skin and throws your skin's pH out of whack.
A quick tip to seal in moisture is to just lightly dry yourself when you jump out of the shower; leave some of that moisture on your skin and apply your body lotion right away.
What about dry lips? Use a lip balm or lip gloss throughout the day. For a DIY version, mix cocoa butter, coconut oil and chocolate chips... melt in a bowl, bring to room temperature, stir again, and there you have it: a yummy lip gloss.
