As part of our focus on breast cancer for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, surgical oncologist, Dr. Maureen Chung, who specializes in breast cancer surgery, goes over breast cancer screening guidelines, recommendations on prevention, detection and treatment for different ages of women, and lifestyle factors that do or do not actually contribute to breast cancer risk.

Dr. Maureen Chung, Medical Director of the Southcoast Breast Center, is a surgical oncologist specializing in diseases of the breast. Prior to joining Southcoast in June, Dr. Chung was a revered breast surgeon at Women & Infants Hospital and Rhode Island Hospital, both located in Providence, and previously served as program director of the Breast Disease Fellowship at Women & Infants Hospital. She was also on the Board of Directors of the Rhode Island Breast Cancer Coalition. Subsequently, Dr. Chung served as the director of the Margie Petersen Breast Center at Saint John's Health Center, as well as the director of the Breast Oncology Fellowship Program and the Margie and Robert E. Petersen Breast Cancer Research Program at John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica, CA.
Dr. Chung attended McGill University in Montreal, Canada, where she earned her undergraduate and master's degree in science. She received her medical degree from McGill University and her doctorate degree from Brown University. Dr. Chung completed a general surgery residency at McGill University and a surgical oncology fellowship at Brown Medical School in Providence. - Length (mins): 10
