Dr. Joan Elizabeth Shook is Professor of Pediatrics in the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Section at Baylor College of Medicine. As Head of the Section for 22 years, she was Director of the Emergency Department and the first Director of Baylor’s Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship. In 2012, she joined Texas Children’s Hospital and Integrated Delivery System as Chief Safety Officer and Chief Clinical Information Officer. Dr. Shook is also the Deputy Chief Quality Officer at Texas Children’s Hospital. Additionally, she is an Adjunct Professor in Administrative Science at Rice University.
Dr. Shook is active nationally in Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM), currently serving as Chair, Committee in Pediatric Emergency Medicine (COPEM) for the American Academy of Pediatrics, and as a member of the PEM sub-board for the American Board of Pediatrics. She has served as a member and Chair of the Texas Department of Health Governor’s Emergency and Trauma Advisory Committee. She has served as lead investigator on several research grants and has written numerous articles for peer-reviewed professional journals.
Dr. Shook received a BA from Brown University, MD from University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, and her MBA from University of Houston, with a Fellowship in Ambulatory Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine. - Length (mins): 10
