EP 856 A New Test for Fibromyalgia

More than 10 million Americans have fibromyalgia (FM), a chronic condition with symptoms like pain, fatigue, poor sleep and memory problems.

Diagnosing this health issue is difficult. There haven't been any objective diagnostic tests, and the disease isn't specific to any age, gender or ethnicity. Because of this, people with FM have historically been subject to skepticism by friends, family and the medical community.

Plus, since the root cause of FM is unknown, treatment only helps temporarily calm symptoms rather than wipe out the illness.

However, all of that may change with just one test. Developed by Dr. Bruce Gillis, the test identifies an abnormality in white blood cells that has been specifically found in people with FM.

Tune in to hear how this test works and why it could change lives.

Featuring:
Bruce S. Gillis, MD, MPH
Bruce-GillisBruce S. Gillis, MD, MPH, is the Founder of EpicGenetics, a biomedical company dedicated to developing conclusive diagnostic tests for complex medical conditions. Under Dr. Gillis’ leadership, EpicGenetics has developed the first diagnostic test for fibromyalgia: The FM/a® Test.

Recognized for his exceptional research in multiple peer-reviewed manuscripts, Dr. Gillis has established himself as a physician, an entrepreneur and as a medical researcher. Dr. Gillis, for the last several years, has maintained active research programs at both the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago and the Harvard School of Public Health.

Dr. Gillis received his undergraduate and medical education at the University of Illinois at Chicago and concurrently also attended the Harvard School of Public Health where he received a Masters in Public Health degree. In the span of seven years, he completed medical school, his Harvard Masters program, two medical residencies and two medical fellowships. He has had faculty positions both at the University of California, Los Angeles and the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago.

Dr. Gillis discovered the protein anomaly in his patients, developed the FDA-compliant diagnostic test, and has corralled three major universities (UCLA, UIC and Harvard/Mass Gen Hosp) to investigate the protein anomaly, look at its DNA and research treatment. He can discuss how people who chose to take the FM/a test can participate in the upcoming research. He can speak to the development of the blood test, which developed to definitively diagnose people with FM, and how the test is playing a key part in this milestone research.

About EpicGenetics, Inc.
EpicGenetics was founded in 2010 by Bruce S. Gillis, MD, MPH, as a privately-held biomedical company dedicated to developing conclusive diagnostic medical tests for complex medical conditions where no definitive testing has been previously available. With this specialized focus, EpicGenetics created the first diagnostic test for fibromyalgia – The FM/a® Test – a breakthrough in fibromyalgia diagnosis and understanding. A simple blood test, The FM Test is the first conclusive test to identify fibromyalgia and provide results usually within one week or less.
