HIV: Will It Be Resolved in Our Lifetime?

HIV may be resolved in the coming years.
Dr. Robert Redfield, the new Director for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, predicted the United States could end the HIV epidemic in three to seven years with currently available tools.

Testing is the first step in maintaining a healthy life and reducing the spread of HIV.

About one-third of new infections occur in those age 13 to 24. These people didn’t grow up with the fear of AIDS and as a result tend to engage in risky behavior. Condom use and sterile needle access is imperative to reduce risk for this age group.

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a pharmaceutical for those who engage in risky behavior. It can be taken daily to lower chances of contracting HIV.

Listen as Dr. Gavin Cloherty joins Dr. Susanne Bennett to discuss the current state of HIV, the importance of testing, and how the infection is being treated.
