Every year, more than 6 million Americans suffer from chronic wounds such as diabetic foot ulcers and pressure injuries. Despite their prevalence, treatment hasn’t changed in decades — leaving patients vulnerable to infections, hospitalizations, and in the most severe cases, preventable amputations. The costs are staggering: an estimated $25 billion annually in direct care, not to mention the cascading burden on patients, families, and health systems. The lack of innovation in wound healing is not just a scientific problem, but a systemic one — rooted in misaligned incentives, slow regulatory pathways, and a lack of urgency in recognizing wounds as a major public health issue. Listen for a look inside the biotech race to regenerate skin and the End of Painful Skin Grafts, with Dr. Nikolai Sopko.

This is a significant step forward for our company following the Breakthrough Therapy designation received for SkinTE® from the FDA earlier this year. The study is also designed to support the filing of a BLA for SkinTE® as a first-in-class autologous skin multicellular therapy. Final trial results are anticipated in the first quarter of 2026.
