Allergies occur when your immune system reacts to a foreign substance that has made its way into your body. This reaction could be from pollen, mold, or dust.
Allergies can occur all year round but are typically most evident during the spring months. According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, there are an estimated 50 million Americans who suffer from allergies.
Asthma occurs when you have inflammation in your air passages that results in the narrowing of the airways that transport oxygen from your nose and mouth to your lungs. Symptoms include difficulty breathing, wheezing, coughing and tightness in the chest. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the current number of adults suffering from asthma is 18.7 million.
