Many people think that eating whole, healthy foods is both expensive and incredibly time-consuming.
Guests Rich Roll and his wife, Julie Platt, dispute those myths.
After finding himself sedentary and overweight in middle age, Rich overhauled his life at age 40 (with the help of Julie), adopted a "plant-powered" whole foods diet and reinvented himself as an ultra-distance endurance athlete.
While Julie was always sort of in that frame of mind, Rich needed a little help. But, since making that transition, they've both been advocating this very basic way of eating. Rather than a "diet," it's become a lifestyle; seasonal eating of whole, plant-based foods in their natural state.
The couple is working to empower people to understand that health and wellness is completely within your grasp, and there is not a socioeconomic or time constraint factor in achieving optimal health.
If you're on board, how can you also get your kids to be open to this way of eating?
According to Rich and Julie, it's important to educate and empower them to make the better choice. It's certainly not guaranteed to be a linear process; it might be one step forward, two steps back. But that's OK.
Use food as an educational tool. Include your kids in shopping, preparation, and even setting the table. And remember, it should be less about wondering if they're going to eat cake at their friend's birthday party, and more about instilling lifelong habits.
Listen in as Julie and Rich join Andrea and Lisa to share more about their plant-based healthy lifestyle, as well as tips for getting your kids involved. The duo also discusses whether you should "blend or juice."
