Adverse Effects of Artificial Food Colorings PLUS Natural Alternatives

The financial benefits food manufacturers receive from artificial ingredients come with a cost to your health.
Foods today are filled with artificial food colorings; par for the course with all of the other artificial ingredients and additives.

But, the financial benefits food manufacturers receive from these added ingredients come with a cost to your health.

Bill Sabo, AKA The Flavor Guy, is the founder and CEO of Natures Flavors. The Flavor Guy first started making flavors in his garage at the ripe age of 17 years old. He created flavors using techniques he learned from his great uncle and grandfather, and discovered that he loved it. His passion for flavor and using natural ingredients has lead him to find the true meaning of what flavor is by traveling around the world exploring remote places, seeking the raw materials that make up our flavors.

Bill joins Naturally Savvy hosts, Andrea Donsky and Lisa Davis, to share these disturbing facts on artificial colors:

  • Artificial coloring has been linked with aggression and ADD/ADHD in some children.
  • There are currently seven artificial dyes approved for use in U.S. (Blue #1, Blue #2, Green #3, Red #3, Red #40, Yellow #5, Yellow #6)
  • The amount of dye used per capita has increased by 500% since the 1950s. The CDC recently found a 41% increase in boys of high school age in the past decade.
  • Ben Feingold concluded that 50% or more of children labeled "hyperkinetic" or "hyperactive" can be treated successfully by eliminating from their diet synthetic colors and flavors in his 1975 study; yet, the FDA has refused to label food colorings as dangerous.
The good news is that color can be derived from natural sources like fruits and vegetables without any of the nasty side effects. Red color can be found in beets, hibiscus, cherries, red radish etc. Yellows and oranges from turmeric, annatto seeds etc.

Listen in as Bill discusses the adverse effects of artificial colors, as well as safe alternatives.
