Leadership in Minutes: Inside the AONL Microlearning Hub

Bill Klaproth (Host):
This is today in Nursing Leadership, a podcast from the American Organization for Nursing Leadership. I'm Bill Klaproth, and with me is Alysia Adams, director of Education Partnerships at AONL and Amy Trueblood, senior Director of Leadership Development at AONL. Alysia and Amy, welcome.

Alysia Adams, DNP, APRN, AGACNP-BC, CCRN, NE-BC:
Thank you. Thank you, Bill, for having us.

Amy Trueblood, MS, RN, NEA-BC:
Wonderful to be here. Bill, again, thank you so much.

Host:
Yeah, Amy and Alysia, thank you so much for being here. We appreciate it.

Host:
So, Amy, let me start with you. What inspired the creation of the Microlearning Hub?

Amy Trueblood, MS, RN, NEA-BC:
Well, um, just a couple of years ago as I was starting in this role with AONL, I realized that we needed to have accessible opportunities and grow the resources we had available that could be real just-in-time availabilities. I didn't know much about microlearnings; I knew the word. And so very thankful that once Alysia came on board, she expanded on that vision a bit. So would you share a little bit about that?

Alysia Adams, DNP, APRN, AGACNP-BC, CCRN, NE-BC:
Yeah. Of course I have a great boss sitting right next to me who lets me ideate on all the things that are possible when we're looking to expand our horizons and really expand opportunities for our members. One of those conversations was how do we merge our on-demand needs and quick learning needs for our community. We know that microlearnings are pretty popular across multiple types of organizations, so I thought, why not bring that to the nursing leadership organization? I have the skill of building things, and Amy empowered me to put together what the vision would look like and share it with our leadership team. They said, “Yes, let's go do it,” which brings us to the live hub. Of course nothing happens without a great team, so I was very thankful to collaborate with members of the AONL team: Lenny from marketing, Megan and Dawn from our LMS team, and the authors who were part of the project.

Host:
Yeah, microlearnings just sound like they make sense in today's society. There's so many things going on. Microlearnings are just a great idea, Alysia.

Alysia Adams, DNP, APRN, AGACNP-BC, CCRN, NE-BC:
Yeah, I thought so too.
