Sexual Dysfunction in Women: Is Viagra the Answer?

According to Fox News, 43 percent of women are suffering from some sort of sexual dysfunction. However, the stats could be much higher because this is just the number of women who have reported it. There is heavy suspicion among experts that the number is much higher, somewhere around 60 percent.

Viagra has become a high-profile research target for women's sexuality.

The success of sildenafil (Viagra) in treating erectile dysfunction in men has resulted in studying the drug in women. Unfortunately, the research has shown little promise. It has also given rise to a movement to establish female sexual dysfunction (FSD) as a new sexual condition. (Harvard Medical News). 

Richard Scott Thornton, MD, has had an esteemed 30-year career as a gynecologist at Holy Redeemer Hospital and Medical Center, located in Meadowbrook, PA, just outside of Philadelphia. Dr. Thornton addresses the conditions, procedures and drugs that can affect a women's sexuality. He also weighs in on the development of Viagra for women.

He has brought a humorous perspective to gynecology through his CD, Gynecology Unplugged, and recently created a YouTube channel Ask the Gynecologist which includes serious a videos on a variety of women's health subjects as well as a comedic playlist, including an animated video surrounding his rap song on hormone replacement therapy.
