Dr. Michael Roizen
Michael F. Roizen, MD, is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Williams College and Alpha Omega Alpha graduate of the University of California, San Francisco, School of Medicine. He performed his residency in internal medicine at Harvard's Beth Israel Hospital and completed Public Health Service at the National Institutes of Health in the laboratory of Irv Kopin and Nobel Prize winner Julius Axelrod. He is certified by both the American Boards of Internal Medicine and of Anesthesiology. Dr. Roizen is the Cofounder and Chair of the RealAge, Inc., Scientific Advisory Board.

Dr. Roizen is a Past Chair of a Food and Drug Administration advisory committee and a former editor for six medical journals. He has published more than 165 peer-reviewed scientific papers, 100 textbook chapters, 30 editorials, and four medical books (one, a medical best-seller), and received 13 U.S. and many foreign patents. He is one of the cofounders of the website RealAge.com, recently sold to the Hearst Corp., and still chairs its Scientific Advisory Board. One of the drugs he co-invented and developed (licensed to Progenics and Wyeth Corp.) for hospice patients will have its NDA day in 2008.

After nine years on the faculty at the University of California, San Francisco, he chaired the top-10-rated Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care at the University of Chicago. He then became Dean of the School of Medicine and Vice President for Biomedical Sciences at SUNY Upstate. After serving as CEO of the Biotechnology Research Corporation of Central New York, he accepted a position as Chair of the Anesthesiology Institute at Cleveland Clinic, responsible for over 180 operatories, 124 critical care beds and 28 pain therapy intervention units. In 2007, Dr. Roizen was named Chief Wellness Officer at Cleveland Clinic, the first such position in a major healthcare institution in the United States. Dr. Roizen also serves as Chairman of the Wellness Institute at Cleveland Clinic.

His first general-audience book, RealAge: Are You as Young as You Can Be? (HarperCollins Publishers) became a #1 New York Times bestseller and was awarded the Best Wellness Book of 1999 by the Books for a Better Life Awards. Dr. Roizen still practices anesthesiology and internal medicine, using the RealAge metric to motivate his patients. He routinely takes patients at the Cleveland Clinic Wellness Institute who are in the midst of struggling with tobacco, heart, diabetic or arthritic problems and coaches them with simple (but persistent) lifestyle changes to be able to live, feel, look and be years younger. He really enjoys getting them to throw away their medications when they no longer need them, but teaches the role of food and other simple steps in reversing disease processes. The Wellness Institute that he chairs includes Employee Health and Wellness, the Department of Preventive Medicine, Premium Access Programs, Disease Reversal and Integrative Medicine Programs, and the Wellness Public Policy and Community Support Programs of Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Roien is 64 calendar years of age, but his RealAge is 44.3.

 

Dr. Arthur Perry

Arthur Perry, MD graduated from Rutgers College magna cum laude with high distinction in zoology and received his MD degree with distinction in research from the Albany Medical College of Union University in 1981. He then trained in general surgery at Harvard Medical School's Beth Israel Hospital and in burn surgery at the New York Hospital/Cornell Medical Center. Following this, he trained in plastic surgery with Thomas J. Krizek, MD, FACS at the University of Chicago where he was Chief Resident in 1987. He then performed a cosmetic surgery fellowship with Drs. Baker and Gordon in Miami.

Dr. Perry then joined the full time faculty of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey - Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. While he is now in private practice, he is still a Clinical Associate Professor and has an active role in the teaching of medical students in his private office. In addition, for 14 years, he held the faculty rank of Clinical Associate at the University of Pennsylvania, where he helped teach the plastic surgery residents aesthetic plastic surgery. Dr. Perry has recently become affiliated with the teaching faculty at Cornell/Columbia and was named as a reviewer for their prestigious publication, “Practical Reviews in Plastic Surgery”.

Dr. Perry's practice consists of aesthetic, or cosmetic surgery. He has published extensively in this field and has contributed not only scientific papers to journals but also chapters to medical textbooks. He presented original research on liposuction at the national meeting of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and published an important article in the journal, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Perry recently wrote the neck liposuction chapter on the internet plastic surgery book, emedicine.

His first book, Are You Considering Cosmetic Surgery was published by Avon Press in 1997. Another book, Straight Talk about Cosmetic Surgery was published in 2007 by Yale University Press and was named the best health book of 2007 in Foreword Magazine’s annual competition. His next book, You Being Beautiful was co-written with Drs. Michael Roizen and Mehmet Oz was a New York Times Bestseller for 10 weeks! In September of 2009, Dr. Perry’s Real Life of a Surgeon was published by Kaplan Press/Simon and Schuster.

He was a member of the advisory board for Congressman Mike Ferguson in 2001. Dr. Perry was appointed by Governor Christine Whitman to the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners in 1995. He was reappointed to a 3 year term in March of 2000. He was elected Treasurer and a member of the Executive Committee of the Board for 2002-3. He was Chairman of the advertising and mesotherapy committees, and the special designee for bioterrorism issues, as well as the representative to the Department of Health and Human Service's Invasive Cosmetic Procedure Committee.

Dr. Perry was chosen to be Chief of Plastic Surgery at the Somerset Medical Center in 2003 and was again chosen in 2004 and 2005. He recently was selected to be an examiner for the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Perry has been selected for inclusion in the Best Doctors in the New York Metro Area in 1999 and 2000. He was listed in the Top Doctors in the New York Area book for 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. He was listed in the nation's top cosmetic doctors book in 2004 and 2005. He was listed as one of four plastic surgeons in the New Jersey Life magazine's Top New Jersey Doctors and was listed as one of eight plastic surgeons in New Jersey Magazine's Top Doctors in 2005. In June of 2007 and again in 2008, Dr. Perry was named as one of New Jersey’s top 8 plastic surgeons in New York Magazine.

In April of 2006, Dr. Perry was awarded the Distinguished Service Award for Outstanding Contributions to Plastic Surgery and to the NJ State Board of Medical Examiners by the New Jersey Society of Plastic Surgeons. Dr. Perry has had an interest in journalism and radio since his days broadcasting “Science Newsfront” on WRSU-FM at Rutgers. His return to radio took 28 years, but it was worth the wait. “Plastic Surgery in the Air” debuted December of 2005.

Following a successful year and a half run, in April of 2007, Dr. Perry joined the world renowned physician and author, Dr. Michael Roizen, as cohost of “You the Owners Manual Radio Show”, heard on 25 radio stations in the United States. In New York, you can listen to Dr. Perry’s “What’s Your Wrinkle” show, heard at 7 pm on WOR710 on the AM dial. In June of 2009, Dr. Perry began his nationally syndicated feature minutes (“Looking in the Mirror with Dr. Arthur Perry”), heard in New York at 10:30 pm on the Dr. Joy Browne show and around the country on the WOR and Armed Forces radio networks. Dr. Perry is the plastic surgery expert, blogging on the Dr. Oz television show website. He has been a guest on the show 7 times since the show began in Sept of 2009. On his most recent appearance, he and Dr. Oz removed Jimmy Fallon’s mole, live on the air! And then Dr. Perry lasered a red spot off of Dr. Oz‘ face. On a prior appearance, Dr. Perry performed a lower body lift on a woman who lost 178 pounds.
