Hyperbaric oxygen treatment (HBOT) is a medical treatment that increases the oxygen content in the cells.
The pressure around the individual is increased so the body takes in more oxygen. This changes how your body functions.
The process takes place in a clear, pressurized chamber that simulates underwater pressure. Plasma gets saturated with oxygen. It takes about 60-90 minutes so the body isn’t overexposed to oxygen.
HBOT works well for cancer patients, those with diabetic foot ulcers, chronic bone infections and sudden hearing loss. Outside of the United States, it has been used for Crohn’s disease, traumatic brain injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis (MS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), reflex sympathetic dystrophy, chronic infections, biocognitive impairment and health optimization.
The more acute the condition, the less HBOT is needed. It can take anywhere from 5-40 treatments, depending on the condition. It works best when treating every day, Monday through Friday, taking the weekends off.
Listen as Dr. Scott Sherr joins Dr. Susanne Bennett to share how HBOT works.
